Pest Control in Surfside Beach, SC

Beach cottages, salt air, and the pests that come with them

Much of Surfside Beach is low-slung cottages and raised beach houses a few blocks from the sand, many of them older builds on small lots set close together. Sea breeze and steady humidity soften wood trim, swell door frames, and open gaps around pipes and vents, and those gaps are exactly where ants and palmetto bugs get in. When one house on a tight street has a problem, the yards beside it usually do too.

Palmetto bugs, the big American cockroaches that live in pine straw, mulch, and crawl spaces, are a constant this close to the ocean. They wander indoors at night, especially after a heavy rain. Fire ants build mounds in the sandy lawns, and smaller ants trail along damp foundations into kitchens and bathrooms. We treat the crawl space, the foundation line, and the mulch beds, and put bait where the trails are.

Mosquitoes are the other summer complaint. Low spots that hold rainwater, clogged gutters, birdbaths, and kayaks or boats left upside down in the yard can all breed a new batch in about a week. Our monthly mosquito fogging runs April through August, covers the trees, shrubs, and yard, and includes a growth regulator that keeps larvae from maturing.

Vacation rentals and bed bugs from guest turnover

Many Surfside houses are rented by the week in summer, so one cottage can sleep a different family every week from June to August. Bed bugs ride in on suitcases and beach bags, and owners often first hear about them from a guest who woke up with bites.

When a rental owner or manager calls, we start with a free bed bug inspection of the unit, then use heat or chemical treatment depending on the furniture, the size of the infestation, and how soon the next guests arrive. We plan the visit around check-out and check-in so the property stays bookable, and in a duplex or a small condo building we can look at the units on either side as well.

Year-round Surfside residents get bed bugs too, usually after travel or from secondhand furniture. They get the same three-step elimination process we use in rentals, just without the booking deadline.

What our exterminators handle in Surfside Beach

Most Surfside homes are covered by the 3 Zone Protection Plan: an interior treatment, an exterior perimeter barrier, and the full yard, with free call-backs between scheduled visits if pests come back. For a home of 1,000 to 2,000 square feet it starts at $269 for the first visit and $45 a month after that.

Beyond the plan, we take on bed bugs, German cockroach infestations (a $199 initial program with baiting and a follow-up visit two weeks later), mosquito fogging, and fire ant mounds. Termite and rodent work is available as well, so ask about it when you call.
